Law firm

Oslo, Norway

Oslo law firm Grette wanted their office spaces to reflect the corporate culture of cooperation and transparency. Designer and architect Jan Svartsund of Grid Design: “In office design, there’s always the discussion between open plan and cell structure. Grette’s request was interesting, because they HAD to have a cell structure office – to ensure their clients’ privacy – but they really wanted the feeling of an open plan feeling.”

Meeting of textures

Svartsund designed wide corridors, plenty of meeting spaces and glass walls to encourage contact and cooperation, without compromising on privacy. “To open up the space, I used glass divisions between the corridors and the office spaces, and drew the corridor carpet into the offices. Just inside the offices the carpet hits the Hakwood floor, without a threshold; a very nice meeting of colours and textures.”

More personal

“Our contractor suggested Hakwood”, says Svartsund. “And I was impressed with the broad planks and the wonderful stability of the floor. I think the calm and neutral wood tones make the Grette offices more personal. For me, that’s what a wood floor does for any design: it makes people feel more at home.”
