Andaz Amsterdam Hotel
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Interior designer Marcel Wanders wanted the Andaz Hotel in Amsterdam to reflect the relaxed nature of the city and its people. He transformed the former public library into a uniquely local experience.
Book-themed
Fittingly, the new interior has a very strong book theme throughout. The imagery of historic books about and from Amsterdam inspired the wallpaper and other graphic décor. Together with the golden age references and the Delft blue design features, this establishes a unique Dutch and Amsterdam vibe.
A logical whole
A major theme within the overall design is the idea of ‘connected polarities’: two non-related elements combined to form a new, logical whole. A nod to the open-mindedness and creativity that are key features of Dutch society.
Showcasing hospitality
With its multiple references to knowledge and adventure, heritage and modernity, Andaz Amsterdam is a showcase of local hospitality. It extends an invitation to international visitors, as well as to locals proud of their city and culture.
