Hakwood is a Dutch family company, founded in 1979 and still led by the same family today. For over 45 years, we have supported architects and designers worldwide with premium wood flooring, made entirely in-house in the Netherlands. Our identity is shaped by where we come from: a deep connection to nature, a belief in honest craftsmanship, and a long-term view on quality.
A family anchored in its landscape
Hakwood was founded in 1979 in the Netherlands, near the canals of Gorinchem and the edge of Biesbosch National Park. Three generations on, the company is still led by cousins Mark and Robert Hak. Mark shapes the creative direction and international reach of the brand; Robert drives production, precision, and innovation. Together, they carry forward a story that is inseparable from the Dutch landscape it grew from.
Every step demands a trained eye
From air-drying and kiln-drying the wood to ensure perfect stability, to the patient selection and examination of each plank, to the final surface treatment, every step is subjected to multiple quality checks. Up to 17 inspections per product. This meticulous approach is not a system. It is a mindset, carried by a team that understands wood as a living material.
The inventor of DuoPlank®
Hakwood pioneered the DuoPlank® process: combining a climate-controlled, air-dried hardwood layer with high-grade, water-resistant birch plywood. The result is a floor with the look and feel of solid wood and the dimensional stability of engineered construction. One of the most stable base planks in the world, made to perform across all conditions and seasons.
European oak and ash, sourced with care
Hakwood sources oak and ash from naturally sustainable European woodland, spanning from France to the Balkans. We work only with mature trees, typically 100 to 200 years old, selecting from the base and trunk where the grain is most uniform. 100% of our oak is sourced within the EU, FSC certified, and chosen to meet the same stringent standards every time.
