A legacy of care, quality and responsibility
At Hakwood, sustainability is deeply woven into who we are and how we approach our craft. Creating exceptional wood flooring goes hand in hand with protecting the resources that make it possible. From responsible sourcing and minimizing waste to constantly innovating our processes, we are driven by the idea that true craftsmanship respects the planet. Our goal is to leave behind not just beautiful spaces, but a positive impact for generations to come.

Environment: responsible production is part of our craftsmanship
Every product is made in-house in the Netherlands, where we apply a sustainability-first mindset to every step of the process. From repurposing wood offcuts and using recycled packaging to reducing energy consumption and managing waste thoughtfully, we turn conscious choices into lasting impact. An in-house water treatment plant, electric forklifts, and bicycles between workshops help minimize our footprint.

Governance: integrity runs through every decision
At Hakwood, strong governance is not a compliance exercise. It is part of how we do business every day. We uphold a strict Code of Conduct across the entire organization, work in full compliance with GDPR, and take proactive steps to stay secure in a rapidly changing digital landscape. We do not engage in business with countries subject to embargo, and we hold ourselves to the same standards we expect from our suppliers. As a family business, our reputation is personal. That makes integrity non-negotiable.
Sustainability in practice: Hyatt Regency Amsterdam
Located in the centre of Amsterdam, the Hyatt Regency is committed to sustainable development. A Green Globe 2024 and BREEAM-certified hotel, it is considered a benchmark for environmentally responsible practice in the hospitality industry. Designed using geothermal energy, green facades, carefully selected materials, and low-energy technology, it was a natural fit for Hakwood's engineered flooring.

Always looking ahead
Sustainability is not a checklist. It is a continuous pursuit. At Hakwood, we set measurable goals and hold ourselves to them. All our oak is sourced within the EU, and we are committed to keeping it that way. By 2028, all our packaging will be made from 100% recycled plastic. By 2030, we aim to reduce production waste by 40%. Investments in solvent reuse and ongoing digitalization of our processes keep us moving in the right direction, year after year.

Social: a company that takes care of its people
As a family business, Hakwood is committed to the wellbeing of its employees and the broader community. Vitality programs, ongoing learning and development through Hakademy, and support for local initiatives are part of how we operate, not afterthoughts.
